ExactTarget and Salesforce: A Perfect Combination
**This is not a paid post. These are two companies we feel offer excellent products and that make our job easier**
We love Salesforce.com (SFDC). It’s the CRM platform we use ourselves and we recommend and use it with our customers. It plays a critical role in our business. However, trying to implement marketing automation within this platform can be difficult because of its very limited email marketing capabilities.
After spending many hours and months working with their email limitations, we are continuing to expand into other avenues to manage marketing emails. The one I like best thus far, is ExactTarget. Let me tell you why.
First of all, SFDC grossly limits the number of broadcast emails you can send each day. Their intent has been to avoid becoming an email service provider – which they are quite good at. ExactTarget enables you to send unlimited emails each day. More importantly, ExactTarget has incredible segmentation abilities allowing you to not only segment your email lists by just about any characteristic but it also provides unique content based on those segments. This allows you to implement fully automated email marketing campaigns.
By far the best part about ExactTarget is that it has an AppExchange agreement with Salesforce. This allows you to keep your data safely stored in Salesforce but still use all of the ExactTarget functions. That means you don’t have to do any extra work to sync your information between both. Also, everything you do within ExactTarget is tracked within SFDC so you will never have a question regarding what has and hasn’t been done.
Many companies are barely starting to scratch the surface of the capabilities of these two solutions. With everything they offer in a combined solution, we are very excited about what they offer. If you would like help implementing either or both of these solutions in your company. Give us a call! We can help. 602-692-3818.

We are exploring this combination for one of our business units. If you do any sort of email marketing volume, you must venture beyond the native SFDC functionality. Does anyone have any feedback about ExactTarget's whitelisting efforts?

@Joshua, whitelisting and email deliverability are areas where ExactTarget continually focuses their efforts. They maintain whitelisting relationships with many ISPs including AOL, Hotmail, Yahoo, Lycos, netZero, Juno, Excite and others. This agreement allows for a feedback loop for complaints from clients emails.
Additionally, ExactTarget offers deliverability services. They work with you on deliverability strategies including blacklist investigation and resolution and how to improve your results, but this is at an additional cost.
As one of their included features, ExactTarget has the Content Detective feature that scans your email content for words, phrases, punctuation, capitalization, etc. that normally cause SPAM filters to mark emails as SPAM. This allows you to make any changes necessary in order to maximize the chance of your email making it into your recipients’ inbox instead of being labeled as SPAM.
I hope this helps.
