Restoring Honor - or is it Return with Honor?
Some time ago I placed a sticker on the inside, left fold of my wallet. It is the first thing I see every time I open my wallet. It says, "Return with Honor." This phrase also hangs in my home, in the entryway, near the front door. It is posted as a reminder to return home with honor, having done only those things that would bring honor to my family and the good name my parents gave me.
Yesterday, I posted that I will be attending the Restoring Honor Rally in Washington D.C.. As I think about the purpose of restoring honor, I could not help but think about the phrase that instructs me to return with honor. It is clear that if honor must be restored then it must have been lost somewhere along the way.
So what exactly is honor? Earlier in my life I was taught that humility comes before honor and that men obtain honor when they walk away from strife. It is also apparent that honor is earned on the battlefield and in defense of virtue and family. Honor may seem like an impossible task in the realm of bi-partisan politics, but I believe it needs to be considered and pursued.
The objective to restore honor to America and the chambers of Congress can only happen as we individually and personally restore honor to our own lives. We desperately need to respect each other, even when we disagree; and by doing so maintain the ability to seek common ground. This is a principle exemplified in The Declaration of Independence when it declares, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." As shown in times past, we too must restore honor to the debates of our day and continue to establish Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. If we do, we will restore honor to ourselves and to America.
Next week, while in Washington, I look forward to being with many like-minded Americans that believe honor must be restored.
