What do Independents stand for? Self-government
Independents are often accused of being doubled minded, unpredictable and "they stand for nothing" as one GOP leader recently told me. This is misleading and does not fairly portray them.
Independents stand for self-government and in saying this I do not mean no government. They take the position of our Founding Fathers and claim the rights of reason, understanding that reasonable men and woman do not need excessive rules and regulations but will naturally come to common sense conclusions - conclusions that conform to natural law.
Independents intuitively know and demonstrate with their actions that strong government begins and rests on the foundation of self-government. They reject the idea that overlords, whether they be labeled as Federal officials or party authorities "know best" about the issues of our society and how state and local governments should solve them. In a clear and loud voice they frustrate party officials and pollsters alike because they do not conform to a single position that can be used exclusively for the benefit of "the party".
It is clear to me that a large body of American citizens, including one-third of Arizona, are outside the party structures because they are governed by self; and they are self-governed because they are independent.
As Thomas Jefferson once stated, “We are a people capable of self-government and worthy of it.”

"understanding that reasonable men and women do not need excessive rules and regulations but will naturally come to common sense conclusions - conclusions that conform to natural law. "
The above assumes that the majority of men and women are reasonable, which in my opinion is false. Also, just looking at the past 2,000 years of human history, in my opinion, proves that humans do not come to common sense conclusions.
